A Brief History

Ferndale Bowls club was founded in 1977 to offer bowling facilities to the community of Randburg.

With an initial membership of approx 20 people we used the Ferndale Community Centre as a base of operations until the official clubhouse was completed in 1981.

Since then many alterations have been completed to enlarge the clubhouse to cater for an increasing number of members, to the extent that we can now quite comfortably cater for 100 plus people in our bar area and tea and lunch room. We also have facilities to host meetings in a large meeting room, a large kitchen and ample amenities.

A Bowling Green Roller was imported from Australia in 1996 to ensure that our two A graded greens remain two of the best kept greens in South Africa with many bowlers from clubs around the country commenting on how superb our greens are.

The club has produced two District Association Presidents and numerous officials at a Provincial and National level. In 2005 Ferndale Bowls Club was the headquarters for the Open Inter Provincial Tournament and was recognised as the Club of the Year by the District Association.

Lastly, Ferndale Bowls Club is a proudly South African member of the Johannesburg Bowls Association and form part of the Saturday League. We also encourage our members to take part in all external competitions and have had many successes in these.

We look forward to welcoming you!

It's the thing you do that makes you good.”
